Modi Stands Firm on Farmers Amid Tariff Tensions with U.S.
In response to U.S. tariffs, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserts he will prioritize the welfare of India's farmers. Modi's stance comes amid collapsed trade talks between India and the U.S. as the two nations clash over farm sectors and Russian oil purchases. Realignment with China is considered.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared that his government's dedication to the welfare of farmers will not falter, notwithstanding U.S. tariffs that could cost him politically. This statement followed U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to enforce a total 50% tariff on Indian goods.
India-U.S. trade talks have failed after multiple rounds due to disagreements on farm sector policies and India's purchase of Russian oil. The Indian foreign ministry has criticized the U.S. for what it sees as unwarranted economic measures, pledging protective steps.
Despite the tensions with the U.S., India is exploring other alliances, with Modi planning a visit to China and engaging in discussions with the BRICS group spearheaded by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
