Indonesia's Galang Island: A Safe Haven for Gaza's Wounded

Indonesia will convert a medical facility on its Galang Island to treat about 2,000 wounded Gaza residents, amid ongoing conflict. The initiative, led by President Prabowo Subianto, aims to provide medical aid without evacuation. Galang, previously a refugee camp, is to temporarily shelter the families of those receiving treatment.

Indonesia is set to transform a medical facility on Galang Island to cater to around 2,000 wounded residents from Gaza, a presidential spokesperson announced on Thursday. In response to the fatalities resulting from Israel's offensive, the Muslim-majority nation is extending humanitarian support to the war-torn region.

Presidential spokesperson Hasan Nasbi emphasized that the aid effort was strictly medical, not an evacuation, though it includes temporarily housing patients' families. Galang Island, strategically located near Singapore, will be the treatment center due to its uninhabited status.

The move, however, reignites debate following criticism of President Prabowo Subianto's earlier offer that echoed U.S. President Donald Trump's controversial plan. Indonesia has a firm stance on a two-state solution, rejecting any forced displacement of Palestinians.
