A man died after being struck by an excavator machine near Ghatkopar railway station in Mumbai early Thursday. Following the incident, police filed a culpable homicide charge against the driver, an official confirmed.
The deceased, believed to be about 35, was reportedly intoxicated at the time, according to a Government Railway Police official in Kurla. His body was discovered at the scene, leading to an accidental death case being registered and an investigation commencing.
Technical evidence indicated that the man was sleeping close to the wheel of the excavator when the driver initiated the machine, resulting in the fatal accident. Subsequently, driver Bharat Yadav was charged with culpable homicide, not amounting to murder, under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is currently ongoing.
