Cross-Border Smuggling Ring Cracked: Amritsar Police Arrest Five

In a major crackdown, Amritsar police dismantled a cross-border smuggling network, leading to the arrest of five individuals, including a juvenile. The authorities seized 1.50 kg of heroin and 12 pistols, uncovering a major illegal operation involving arms and narcotics.
Those arrested have been identified as Joban Singh, 22, Karandeep Singh alias Pandit, 19, Ajaypal Singh, 18, from village Mari Megha in Tarn Taran; Jashanpreet Singh, 18, of village Rania in Amritsar and a 16-year-old juvenile. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav confirmed the arrests, revealing connections with smugglers based in Pakistan who utilized social media for communication.
The operation sheds light on the use of drones by Pakistan-based smugglers to drop consignments, aiming to fuel inter-gang rivalries in Punjab. An investigation is ongoing to establish deeper connections in the smuggling network. A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Arms Act and the Narcotics Drugs Psychotropic Substances Act.
