Clash in the Skies: India Downs Five Pakistani Fighter Jets
In May, India shot down five Pakistani F-16 and JF-17 fighter jets during fierce clashes sparked by an attack in Kashmir. The Indian Air Force disclosed these details while Pakistan claimed downing Indian jets. Tensions remain high with repercussions in trade, travel, and a water treaty dispute.

In a significant revelation, Air Chief Amar Preet Singh announced that India had downed five Pakistani fighter jets of the F-16 and JF-17 class during a fierce conflict in May. This disclosure marks the first public acknowledgment of the jet classes involved in the confrontation.
The heightened tensions were ignited by an attack on Hindu tourists in Indian Kashmir, which New Delhi blamed on Pakistan. Both nations engaged in air and ground combat, deploying fighter jets, missiles, artillery, and drones over a four-day period.
Pakistan's response included claims of shooting down six Indian jets, which India partly denies. The ongoing dispute has seen a downturn in bilateral relations, impacting trade, travel, and a crucial water-sharing treaty, which India put on hold as tensions simmer.
