Authorities in Cuttack, Odisha, have detained eight individuals in connection with recent violent clashes during a 12-hour bandh called by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP). The incident originally erupted on Saturday, prompted by objections to loud music during religious processions, escalating into stone-pelting attacks.
Following an incident on Sunday where VHP activists clashed with police, law enforcement agencies have implemented prohibitory measures, equipping them with lathi charges, tear gas, and rubber bullets to sustain order. Internet services were suspended, with restrictions on entry into Cuttack city, aimed at preventing any further escalation of violence.
The Odisha Police have issued warnings against the spread of misinformation via social media, advocating for caution in sharing unverified content. Senior officers continue to survey the situation, enforcing strong action against lawbreakers as they aim to restore calm in the affected areas.
