Transparency Sought in Wage Determination for Cement Workers

The Central Information Commission (CIC) has mandated the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to issue a detailed response concerning wage determination for contract workers at a cement plant in Uttar Pradesh.

The CIC found the DPIIT's earlier response to an RTI query lacking clarity, particularly on governance rules and wage basis.

The appellant's questions focused on whether central or state rules apply and how wages are set if cement prices are centrally determined. The respondent cited economic liberalization, stating the Government does not control cement prices anymore.
