In a deeply troubling incident, a US national was reportedly sexually assaulted at a homestay in Kutta village, located in Kodagu district. The alleged assault occurred last week, and both the staffer accused of the crime and the homestay owner have been apprehended by the police.
The victim's account suggests her drink was tampered with before the assault. After the attack, the homestay owner allegedly failed to report the matter and went further to hinder communication by disabling WiFi, preventing the victim from reaching out for help.
Upon regaining communication access, the victim contacted the US consulate and police. Authorities promptly registered a case, leading to the arrest of the suspects. The case highlights significant lapses in guest safety at hospitality venues.
