The Supreme Court has issued a final ultimatum to the Centre, instructing it to clarify its stance on a plea involving the return of individuals deported to Bangladesh. This case includes Bhodu Sheikh's daughter, Sunali Khatun, who was deported but later allowed reentry on humanitarian grounds.
A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant expressed disappointment over the Centre's delay in submitting its views. Authorities are urged to cooperate, while the Centre previously held that these individuals were illegal immigrants.
The court's ruling follows a previous decision by the Calcutta High Court, quashing the deportation orders and terming them unlawful. The case has sparked debates over citizenship claims and the rights of deported individuals.
