E-commerce Giants Delist Controversial Agro-Chemical Product After Regulatory Alert
Major e-commerce platforms removed 'Cyclosinone Herbicide' after a Central Consumer Protection Authority probe revealed the unregistered product was sold without necessary disclosures. Initiated by a complaint, the investigation highlights consumer safety risks, especially for farmers, leading to regulatory scrutiny of platforms' compliance with consumer protection laws.
The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has prompted major e-commerce platforms, including Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, and JioMart, to delist 'Cyclosinone Herbicide', following an investigation into regulatory non-compliance.
Driven by a complaint from the Crop Care Federation of India, the CCPA probe revealed that the product was sold online without requisite statutory disclosures — a significant risk for consumers and particularly farmers who rely on such information for safe agro-chemical use.
The e-commerce platforms have been directed to account for their seller verification processes, amid warnings from the CCPA that consumer protection laws must not be compromised in the pursuit of digital marketplace convenience.
