Tragedy in Meerut: Missing Student Found Dead in Sugarcane Field

The lifeless body of 20-year-old Lalita Gautam, a BA student, was discovered in a sugarcane field in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district, following her mysterious disappearance earlier this week, police reported Sunday.
Lalita, from Kirot village, vanished on May 15 after departing for her final-year examination. Authorities say she was living with her family in Gagan Enclave. The case was brought to light after a missing person complaint was filed at TP Nagar police station.
Local residents in the vicinity of Upsiya village alerted authorities when they stumbled upon the grim scene. A forensic team is now meticulously examining evidence, as the body undergoes post-mortem examination. Police have mobilized five specialized teams, focusing on surveillance and CCTV analysis, in an urgent effort to resolve the case. Investigators have already detained one individual for questioning based on the family's suspicions.
