In a chilling case from Bahraich district, police have arrested Arun Kumar, charged with the murder of his eight-year-old niece, Pooja. The arrest unfolded after a dramatic chase as Kumar attempted to escape to Nepal.
Police reports indicate that Kumar confessed to the crime during questioning. He allegedly admitted to hiding his clothes in Alinagar village, prompting police to take him to the crime scene. However, he tried to escape once more and was caught after a brief encounter where he fired at the police, resulting in a gunshot wound to his leg.
Pooja, reported missing on May 15, was found dead the next day in a maize field near her home. Investigation revealed signs of strangulation but no sexual assault. Kumar, described as a distant paternal uncle, is now under medical care and further questioning aims to uncover the motive, with a family feud being a point of inquiry.
