Congress has alleged that the wife of a local leader passed away due to negligence at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Thane. The incident occurred when Sangita Shetty, wife of Kalwa block Congress committee president, died during a transfer to another facility.
Rahul Pingle, Thane district Congress president, claimed that Shetty was denied entry to the Anand Dighe Heart Disease Centre despite available beds, leading to her death without essential medical attention due to Ayushman Bharat scheme paperwork delays. The party seeks a culpable homicide case against the staff and a compensation of Rs 25 lakh for the family.
Subsequent protests were spearheaded by Congress, demanding action by June 6. In response, hospital dean Swapnali Kadam has initiated an internal investigation, promising detailed findings by the specified date.
