In a significant step towards resolving the long-standing inter-state border conflict, Assam and Meghalaya's leaders have committed to accelerating their negotiation process. Assam's Himanta Biswa Sarma and Conrad K Sangma of Meghalaya recently held a collaborative meeting to address this issue.
The talks took place in Guwahati, where both chief ministers explored avenues to progress the boundary demarcation process. Sarma expressed optimism about advancing dialogue and achieving consensus on the disputed areas. This effort aligns with broader Indian initiatives aimed at fostering regional cooperation and development, as emphasized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for the northeastern states.
While an agreement in 2022 addressed several disputed areas, this meeting underscores a renewed commitment to resolving the more complex sections of the border. Emphasizing mutual respect and continued engagement, the leaders aim to cement a lasting resolution conducive to the region's prosperity.
