SpiceJet is under significant financial scrutiny after the GST department demanded Rs 124.65 crore due to delays in filing Goods and Services Tax (GST) returns. As part of its measures, the department has issued a show-cause notice threatening to revoke the airline's GST registration.
The delayed returns have accrued over several months, with provisional assessments conducted under Indian tax regulations totaling the demand to this amount. According to the GST department, inconsistencies have persisted, culminating in a notice issued on May 25, 2026. SpiceJet has not yet responded to the notice nor filed the pending returns.
The GST department specified the financial breakdown of the demand: Rs 44.44 crore for November, Rs 43.79 crore for December, Rs 12.19 crore for January, Rs 12.10 crore for February, and Rs 12.12 crore for March. Failure to comply may lead to further actions under statutory guidelines.
Efforts to obtain comments from SpiceJet officials were unsuccessful, as no representatives were available for a statement despite several attempts.
