A court in Muzaffarnagar has imposed the death penalty on a 50-year-old man for the murders of a woman and her young son, a tragic event that occurred nearly 15 years ago.
Ravi Kumar Diwakar, an Additional District and Sessions Judge, declared Rahis, also known as Zahid, guilty. The court judged the offense to be among the "rarest of rare" cases, justifying the death penalty and a Rs 5 lakh fine. The Allahabad High Court must still confirm the sentence.
The murders of Rajesh Devi, aged 30, and her six-year-old son, Himanshu, took place in Alawalpur village, within the jurisdiction of Charthawal police station, on November 7, 2008. Prosecutors described how the accused lured the victims to a sugarcane field and killed them following a dispute.
The brutal case reached its conclusion as the court issued its decision on Friday, marking an essential step in a long-lasting quest for justice.
