Bengal CID Summons TMC's Abhishek Banerjee For Alleged Forgery Investigation

The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has issued a summons to Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. He is required to present himself to CID officers regarding a case involving alleged forged signatures submitted by TMC MLAs in support of Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay for the position of Leader of Opposition.

The document, which arrived amid notable political tension, was given to Banerjee personally at his Kalighat Road residence in Kolkata. His reaction to the notice, citing political vendetta, highlights the serious undertones of the ongoing probe. Banerjee affirmed his willingness to cooperate with legal procedures while vowing not to surrender to pressure.

Earlier, the CID team faced challenges in delivering the notice due to Banerjee's absence from his primary residence. They eventually succeeded at an adjacent property where Banerjee acknowledged receipt of the document. The investigation follows disputes over the legitimacy of signatures in a letter signed by TMC MLAs.

This controversy stems from a letter submitted on May 19 that failed to meet certain procedural requirements, prompting a police inquiry. The CID has since interrogated various high-profile TMC figures, reflecting the heightened scrutiny over the matter.
