The National Investigation Agency (NIA) broadened its investigation on Saturday by conducting searches in three southern states related to the seizure of a significant amount of explosives in Malappuram, Kerala.
These raids encompassed 19 locations linked to accused individuals and entities involved in explosives manufacturing and distribution across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. The NIA seized digital devices, documents, gelatin sticks, and other relevant items.
So far, six individuals have been detained in a case that underscores serious national security concerns following the illegal haul of explosives discovered by Kerala Police in February. The initial discovery was made when a lorry at a brick factory compound was found to contain a massive stockpile of explosives.
The consignment, uncovered without a proper licence, comprised 89,600 gelatin sticks and 10,500 non-electric detonators, intended for unlawful activities. The NIA, which assumed control of the case in April, is continuing efforts to trace the distribution network behind this illicit operation.
