Intense rainfall has complicated the search for two villagers still missing in a flooded cave in Laos. This search follows the successful rescue of five others trapped underground for more than a week.
Finnish diver Mikko Paasi reported that until water levels can be reduced, rains have prevented further progress, as they have filled the cave up to the second chamber. A failed pump further slowed efforts, adding to the challenge for divers trying to gain access.
Rescue teams have been working together from countries like Laos, Thailand, Finland and Japan to locate the lost villagers who initially entered the cave searching for gold. The narrow cave system presents further navigation challenges, with the possibility the two missing might be in hard-to-reach areas.
Despite these obstacles, rescuers remain optimistic. "There's hope that a narrow crack might lead to deeper parts of the cave," Paasi noted. Military and civilian rescue groups stay stationed, eager for any opportunity to extend their search efforts.
