In Kolkata, tensions escalated as Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh rebuked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their recent fact-finding committee's visit, branding it a "gimmick" and accusing the party of indulging in "political tourism." This visit came in response to the alleged gang rape of a law student within her college campus.
Ghosh highlighted the BJP's pattern of selective outrage, questioning why the party remains silent on crimes against women in states like Unnao, Hathras, Prayagraj, Gujarat, and others. He argued that their committee is more about spectacle than justice, even as local authorities have already taken necessary action.
Although the police responded swiftly, the BJP approached the High Court, which Ghosh described as a publicity-seeking move. Meanwhile, despite scrutiny, the BJP fact-finding team, comprising several prominent members, continued its assessment, citing government and police failures while tying the accused to the ruling TMC.
