Donald Trump recently announced that he is in discussions to settle a defamation lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal and its billionaire owner, Rupert Murdoch. The legal contention revolves around a July 18 article alleging Trump's association with a controversial birthday greeting to the late Jeffrey Epstein, which Trump has vigorously denied.
Aboard Air Force One, Trump told reporters that Murdoch may or may not control the paper, and suggested that discussions are underway to resolve the matter. "They want to settle it," he remarked, emphasizing his determination to address what he perceives as unfair treatment by the media.
Trump's legal team has labeled the article's claims as "fake" and aimed at harming his reputation. They have filed a request for a speedy deposition of Murdoch to expedite the legal process. The Wall Street Journal has yet to issue a formal response to these developments.
