Honesty in Politics: Candidate Admits Defeat, Calls for Fair Results

In a surprising turn of events, Kajal Bisht, a candidate in the Tarkuli gram panchayat elections, revealed that she did not actually win against her rival, Sumit Kumar. This admission came after Bisht was mistakenly issued the certificate of victory by the election officer.

Kumar, who actually garnered 106 votes to Bisht's 103, was the true victor in the contest for the panchayat post in Uttarakhand's Champawat constituency, represented by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Bisht openly acknowledged this discrepancy and called on the authorities to rectify the mistake.

When no resolution emerged at the local election officer's level, Bisht escalated the issue to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate. The SDM, Anurag Arya, accepted her objection and has since ordered a recount to ensure electoral integrity, with officials set to announce the recount date soon.
