Parliament Dispute Over Bihar Electoral Roll Revision Intensifies

The controversy surrounding the electoral roll revision in Bihar has escalated, as the Indian government refused to entertain the opposition's demand for a parliamentary discussion. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju reiterated that the sub-judice status of the issue prohibits its debate in Lok Sabha.

Despite multiple adjournments, opposition parties persisted with protests, advocating for discussion on the electoral roll revision ahead of Bihar's upcoming elections. Concordantly, opposition leaders penned a joint letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, requesting a review of key bills in a joint Parliamentary committee.

Political tensions have surged as over ten petitions, including those from opposition parties and NGOs, have been filed in the Supreme Court against the revision. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized the government's stance, indicating that open dialogue could swiftly resolve the dispute.
