Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a prominent figure from the Congress party, on Wednesday, extended her support to the Telangana government's campaign for 42% reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in critical sectors like education, employment, and local governance. Despite the bills receiving approval from the Telangana Assembly back in March, they now await the crucial nod from the President.

The movement, spearheaded by Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, culminated in a significant protest at Delhi's iconic Jantar Mantar. The protest saw the participation of Congress stalwarts, including ministers, MPs, and MLAs. The demonstration underscored their demand for swift approval of the Backward Classes Reservation Bills. Priyanka Gandhi echoed this sentiment on social media platform X, emphasizing that the fight transcends state boundaries, marking it as a national crusade for justice and equitable representation for marginalized groups.

The impetus behind the 42% reservation stems from a comprehensive caste survey conducted by the Telangana government, revealing that OBCs constitute 56.36% of the state's demographic. The bill aims to address this disparity by enhancing OBC reservations across various sectors, but faces resistance from the BJP-led central government, according to Congress claims. Priyanka Gandhi, alongside her brother Rahul Gandhi, continues to press for Presidential assent, as they argue the bill embodies social justice enshrined in constitutional values.
