In response, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate shared a photo of Afridi with BJP leader Anurag Thakur, criticizing the ruling party for questioning the Congress's ties while maintaining their own connections with individuals like Afridi.

Afridi's praise, along with his criticism of the BJP-led government in India, coincided with a controversy in Pakistan over the Indian cricket team not shaking hands with their opponents during a recent Asia Cup match. This incident is linked to India's solidarity with victims of a terror attack in Pahalgam, which had led to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.
