West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has raised concerns over the availability of birth certificates for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR), citing past limitations in institutional deliveries. This development follows the Election Commission's intentions to initiate a Special Intensive Revision in the state soon.
During the inauguration of the new Woodburn 2 building 'Ananya' at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata, Banerjee questioned the source of birth certificates for SIR, pointing out the historical lack of institutional deliveries. On a related note, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh endorsed the SIR, terming it a 'good practice' that should have been implemented in West Bengal before Bihar.
Additionally, Mamata Banerjee highlighted West Bengal's financial woes, particularly the state's struggle to secure Rs 20,000 crore in Goods and Services Tax (GST) compensation. She emphasized the challenges in obtaining funding for various projects, even as the state leads in healthcare services in India. Several political entities have since urged the central government for special compensation to shield revenue losses following new GST reforms.
