The AIADMK has called on the Indian government to posthumously award the Bharat Ratna to freedom fighter Pasumpon U Muthramalinga Thevar. A representation was given to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, confirmed party chief Edappadi K Palaniswami.

Palaniswami, who met Shah in Delhi after discussions with Vice President C P Radhakrishnan, emphasized that his party is committed to honoring Thevar's legacy. He submitted a letter to Shah urging for the prestigious civilian award to be conferred on Thevar.

This meeting occurs amid the backdrop of internal party dynamics, as Palaniswami ruled out rapprochement with expelled leaders. The visit also coincides with the expiration of a deadline for reinducting dissenting figures, sparking speculation about the BJP's influence on AIADMK's internal affairs and possible resolution efforts led by Shah.
