Denmark Boosts Defense Budget Amid Russian Threat

Denmark is set to acquire long-range precision weapons to bolster its defense capabilities against potential Russian threats, following years of military budget cuts. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced that although there is no immediate threat, Russia is perceived as a long-term risk to European stability.

This strategic shift comes after Denmark significantly increased its military budget in response to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, highlighting acute defense shortcomings. Frederiksen emphasized the enduring threat Russia poses to Europe and Denmark, though no immediate danger is present.

Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen indicated the acquisitions might include enemy-targeting missiles and drones.
