Turkey and Egypt are set to conduct joint naval drills, the first in 13 years, signaling warming relations between the two countries. Dubbed 'Friendship Sea,' the exercises will occur in the eastern Mediterranean from September 22-26, as reported by the Turkish Defence Ministry.
The exercises will involve Turkish frigates, fast attack vessels, a submarine, F-16 fighter jets, and Egyptian naval units. High-level observers, including top commanders from both navies, are expected to attend an important event on September 25.
The improved ties come after years of tension following Egypt's military coup in 2023, which ousted a Turkish-backed government. Both nations have been working to restore diplomatic relations, appointing ambassadors and collaborating on issues like the Gaza ceasefire.
