In a major initiative aimed at women empowerment, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday distributed Rs 2,500 crore to 25 lakh beneficiaries as part of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana. This brings the total number of women receiving aid under this scheme to one crore.
Earlier, 75 lakh women were granted Rs 10,000 each by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a virtual event. Bihar aims to have one woman from each family benefit by October 6, with the weekly disbursement continuing until complete coverage.
Political analysts view this scheme as a strategic move for the NDA amidst the strain of incumbency. The opposition labels it a mimicry of populist measures. Nevertheless, Kumar asserts the NDA's dedication to women's welfare, contrasting it with previous administrations.
