The election campaign in Mylapore has been tainted by allegations of illicit cash distribution. Authorities seized bundles of cash from an aide's residence connected to DMK candidate Dha Velu. The operation was led by the election commission's flying squad, sparking political controversy.
J Kumaragurubaran, the Chennai District Election Officer, confirmed the incident, posting details on social media. Evidence suggests that the money was intended to sway voters, and the cash has been handed over to the Income Tax department for further investigation.
BJP's chief spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy has called for the disqualification of Velu from the April 23 Assembly election where he faces 18 other opponents, including BJP candidate and former Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.
