Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has vehemently condemned the Central government for the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination. The decision was made after allegations of a paper leak, and Ramesh has called for a significant restructuring of the National Testing Agency (NTA) to eliminate corruption and safeguard the integrity of national exams.
Ramesh highlighted the government's inaction despite previous acknowledgments of the NTA's shortcomings, expressing concern over repeated failures and the impact on the academic calendar. He also criticized the imposition of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), stating it has disrupted academic schedules and driven students towards private institutions.
The incident has triggered a political uproar, with demands for the resignation of the Education Minister and calls for accountability. Amid the controversy, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has remained silent on the issue, as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) takes over the probe into the allegations.
