Suvendu Adhikari unveiled discrepancies in the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme, highlighting that around 30 lakh beneficiaries were ineligible due to issues such as non-citizenship or removal from voter lists. This scheme was initially introduced by the previous Trinamool Congress government to provide financial aid to women.
Announcing the BJP's alternative—Annapurna Bhandar—Adhikari stated it would offer Rs 3,000 monthly to eligible women. During a press briefing at Nabanna, he assured that until the transition process is complete, recipients of Lakshmir Bhandar would continue receiving their stipends. Verification of new applicants is to be led by Women's Welfare Minister Agnimitra Paul along with state leadership.
