Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, head of the Punjab Congress, has openly accused the ruling Aam Aadmi Party of exploiting official resources and intimidating tactics during the state's recent municipal elections.
Warring commended Congress workers for their perseverance against what he described as the AAP's intense overreach. Despite the AAP's success in 48% of the wards as of Friday night, he labelled these results unreflective of genuine public sentiment, asserting that the true test lies in the upcoming 2027 Punjab Assembly Elections.
He criticized the alleged 'brutal misuse' of power and police by the AAP and confidently predicted that the party would fail to secure more than ten seats in the future assembly contest. According to electoral data, the AAP captured 954 out of 1,977 municipal wards, while Congress secured 390. Despite these numbers, Warring emphasized Congress's resilience amidst the challenging election conditions.
Independent candidates showed strong performance by claiming 251 wards, while other parties like the Shiromani Akali Dal and the BJP secured 191 and 170 wards respectively. The Bahujan Samaj Party managed to win seven wards in the electoral bout.
