In a ceremony held on Sunday morning, Mohini Mani, mother of renowned actor Ajith Kumar, was cremated in Chennai. The private event was attended by close family and friends. Mani, aged 89, died quietly at home after a protracted illness in the early hours of Saturday.
Ajith Kumar, who was abroad due to professional obligations, returned to Chennai to perform the funeral rites. The Mani family had issued a statement expressing gratitude for the support received and asked for privacy. Despite this, numerous dignitaries and celebrities, including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay and actor Trisha Krishnan, offered their condolences.
Family and friends attended the brief viewing at Ajith's residence before proceeding to Besant Nagar Electric Crematorium for the final rites. Tributes poured in from political figures and film industry members, with notable messages from leaders like DMK president M K Stalin and AIADMK's Edappadi K Palaniswami.
