The Uttar Pradesh government's launch of the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) in Ayodhya marks a significant upgrade in the city's traffic management and road safety measures. Implemented in 2022, the system includes modern traffic lights and high-tech cameras across 20 key intersections, allowing real-time surveillance.
Since the introduction of ITMS, over 36,555 traffic challans have been automatically issued for violations. This initiative is not only streamlining traffic movement but also strengthening the city's surveillance and security apparatus, officials report.
While traffic lights are operational at 14 locations currently, the non-functional signals due to construction are expected to soon enhance overall traffic flow. Municipal Commissioner Santosh Sharma notes a visible drop in road accidents and congestion in the area, benefiting pilgrims and residents alike.
