The city of Pune is grappling with severe flooding, as relentless rains continue to batter the region, causing water to inundate communities along the Mutha river.
The Khadakwasla dam, a critical drinking water source, has been releasing water due to rising levels, intensifying the flooding. As of 4 pm, water discharge surged to 4,300 cusecs, submerging the low-lying Bhide Bridge, traditionally a marker of substantial rainfall.
Residents in the Sinhagad Road area have reported rainwater entering homes, with emphasis on the need for infrastructure repair, such as breached walls contributing to water ingress. In view of the situation, the India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Pune district for the upcoming 24 hours.
