Laura Dahlmeier, a renowned German biathlete and double Olympic champion, sustained serious injuries in a mountaineering accident in Pakistan, according to reports from German media and Pakistani authorities.
The accident took place Monday in Gilgit-Baltistan's Hushe Valley when Dahlmeier encountered a landslide. Although locals rescued her, her companion Kraus Marina Eva remains trapped, said spokesperson Faizullah Faraq.
While rescue operations are ongoing with Pakistan army support, bad weather has hindered efforts, as highlighted by ZDF. The region's perilous monsoon conditions have also claimed numerous lives, according to official statistics.
