Kerala's Rapid Township Development for Wayanad Landslide Victims

The Kerala government is rapidly advancing the construction of a township intended for the victims of the catastrophic landslide in Wayanad, with plans to deliver new homes by January. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan revealed the progress during a state Assembly session on Tuesday.
Out of the total affected individuals, 104 have chosen to reside outside the upcoming township, each receiving Rs 15 lakh as compensation. Meanwhile, 295 beneficiaries are set to relocate into the newly constructed township housing, with an additional 49 added to the rehabilitation list after careful evaluation.
The expansive 64.475-hectare Elston estate serves as the site for this township, coordinated by a district committee led by the district Collector. Despite inquiries from the opposition regarding the allocation of Disaster Relief Funds, Vijayan stated he was unaware of such allegations, reiterating the government's commitment to complete the project by January 2026.
