The southwest monsoon has started its withdrawal from flood-impacted areas of Punjab and Haryana, as confirmed by the Meteorological Department on Tuesday.
The withdrawal line now traverses through regions including Bathinda and Fatehabad, with further retreat expected in the coming days. Notably, Punjab endured severe flooding in recent weeks, exacerbated by swollen rivers and excessive rainfall.
The state faced a 74% increase in rainfall for August, resulting in the worst floods in decades, damaging broad swathes of agricultural land and claiming 56 lives. Similar conditions were reported in Haryana, with heavy rains leading to partial floods in several locations, significantly above the monthly average.
