A tragedy unfolded in Jaipur when a dilapidated one-room house collapsed on Thursday, killing an elderly woman and injuring her daughter-in-law, police reported. The family residing in the Subhash Chowk area was there as caretakers.
Dhanni Bai, 78, was lying on a cot due to illness when the house suddenly gave way. Her daughter-in-law, Sunita, 35, tried to shield Bai, resulting in both being trapped under debris. Fortunately, Sunita's two sons, playing outside, were unhurt.
Neighbors quickly initiated a rescue, transporting the women to SMS Hospital. Dhanni Bai was pronounced dead, while Sunita suffers a leg fracture. Authorities had previously issued a vacate notice for the precarious property, sparking debate over responsibility.
