Barasingha Sanctuary: New Eco-Sensitive Zone Declared

In a significant environmental move, the Environment Ministry has issued a draft notification declaring 408.7 square kilometres surrounding the Barasingha Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh as an Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ).
The primary aim of this notification is to act as a buffer zone that will regulate and manage the activities surrounding the sanctuary, which spans the districts of Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Hapur, Bijnor, and Amroha.
Commenting on the rich biodiversity, officials highlighted that the sanctuary is home to a wide array of wildlife. Stakeholders have been invited to share their insights and comments within the next 60 days, ensuring community involvement in conserving this ecological hotspot.
