Sri Lanka is grappling with severe weather conditions causing widespread disruption across the nation. Over the past five days, relentless rain has claimed two lives, according to the country's disaster management centre.
The victims are from the districts of Batticaloa and Jaffna, adding to the woes of a nation where over 4,000 residents have been adversely affected. Around 88 homes suffered partial damages. Authorities have sheltered many in temporary relief centers as safety concerns rise.
Weather forecasts predict more heavy rainfall, with up to 150 mm expected in several provinces. As the low-pressure area persists, there are warnings of potential landslides issued by the National Building Research Organisation for multiple districts.
