The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has embarked on an ambitious project to restore 101 water bodies across the capital by the end of August, according to announcements made by Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Saturday.

Launched as part of the DDA's 'Jal Sanchay Abhiyaan' from District Park in Paschim Vihar, this restoration drive prioritizes functional ecological restoration, encompassing deep desilting and catchment clearance to optimize groundwater recharge during the monsoon. 'This aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for long-term water security,' Sandhu revealed in a social media post.

The initiative targets 101 water bodies over roughly 383 acres, with sites in Dwarka, South, Rohini, and Narela Zones. Out of the 822 water bodies managed by the DDA, 424 have been earmarked for restoration, with strict guidelines on timelines and quality, as emphasized by Sandhu, who urged residents to join the movement towards a greener, water-secure capital.
