The Indian skipper crafted a majestic unbeaten innings of 265, shattering several records, including the highest score by an Indian in England, previously held by Sunil Gavaskar.
Gill's partnership with Washington Sundar, resulting in a crucial 144-run stand, was instrumental as India dominated the English bowlers. The 25-year-old skipper's knock also made him the first Indian to score a double-hundred in England.
