Sarvesh Kushare, an unheralded Indian high jumper, finished an impressive sixth in the World Championships finals with a personal best jump of 2.28 meters. This achievement came just two days after he became the first Indian to qualify for the medal round in this event.
The 30-year-old high jumper, hailing from a small village near Nashik, Maharashtra, pushed beyond his previous best of 2.27 meters set in 2022. Although Kushare couldn't clear the bar at 2.31 meters, his performance remains noteworthy as he fell just a centimeter short of the national record.
Amid fierce competition, including New Zealand's Hamish Kerr winning gold with a 2.36-meter jump, Kushare stands proud with his progress. This achievement, considering his modest beginnings and practice on makeshift mats, shines brightly as he prepares to take on the 2024 Paris Games.
