Tensions have flared in Gujarat's Kheda district following a prohibition on the traditional Garba dance near a mosque, madrasa, and dargah, days before the Navratri festival. The contentious decision, marked by an erected notice board, has sparked a community uproar.
The notice, which emerged at Hussaini Chowk, was allegedly placed by members of the 'Muslim Panch.' It announced an outright ban on performing Garba at a nearby public space, prompting complaints from local Bajrang Dal leaders. The controversy highlights cultural and religious sensitivities in the region.
Authorities have charged two Muslim leaders, who are accused of inciting religious discord, under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 299. Following the uproar, the board has been taken down. Garba, known for its rhythmic and ritualistic significance, remains pivotal to Gujarat's Navratri celebrations.
