In a significant operation, more than 2,200 fruit-laden trucks were successfully evacuated from the valley to Jammu through the Mughal Road, an alternative roadway, in just 24 hours. This effort comes after the primary Srinagar-Jammu highway was closed due to landslides triggered by heavy rains.

The 270-kilometer highway saw closures following substantial damage from record rainfall on August 26 and 27, which caused prolonged stranding of vehicles, including those carrying perishable apple produce. Despite partial reopening, many trucks remained stuck, resulting in considerable loss to fruit traders.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg spearheaded an initiative to ensure the smooth passage of goods via the Mughal Road and personally inspected conditions at Peer Ki Gali, supported by an on-site review with stakeholders. Fruit Growers and Traders Association lauded the swift intervention and ongoing restoration on the national highway.
