Vidarbha solidified their dominance over Rest of India in the Irani Cup clash by the close of play on the third day, accruing a lead of 224 runs. Playing at Nagpur's Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, the day began with Rest of India resuming at 142/5, trailing Vidarbha's 342. Captain Rajat Patidar and Manav Suthar were at the crease.
Aditya Thakare made an immediate breakthrough for Vidarbha, trapping Suthar lbw with the first ball, a decision confirmed upon review. Yash Thakur then dismantled the opposition's middle order, claiming Saransh Jain with a searing yorker and having Akash Deep caught in the covers.
Patidar pushed on from an overnight 42 to reach 66, but was eventually caught trying to hit Harsh Dubey over long-off. Thakur rounded off the innings with figures of 4 for 66, ensuring Vidarbha held a commanding first-innings lead of 128, as Rest of India was bowled out for 214.
In the second innings, Vidarbha's openers, Atharva Taide and Aman Mohkade, laid the groundwork with a 42-run stand. However, Taide fell at deep midwicket to Suthar, and Mohkade departed soon after, caught behind off Gurnoor Brar for 37 in the 24th over.
Despite these losses, Dhruv Shorey and Danish Malewar rebuilt the innings, guiding Vidarbha to a score of 96/2 in 36 overs by stumps, extending their lead to 224 with eight wickets still in hand. (ANI)
