Vietnam's electric vehicle giant, VinFast, officially launched its EV assembly plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, on Monday. Chief Minister M K Stalin, alongside VinFast Asia CEO Pham Sanh Chau, inaugurated the facility by unveiling the premium VF7 car, a symbolic move that underscores VinFast's commitment to India's growing automobile market.
This development underscores VinFast's confidence in India's strategic role within the global EV industry, as well as its dedication to sustainable mobility. With an initial investment of Rs 1,300 crore and completion within 18 months, this project highlights the 'ease of doing business' in Tamil Nadu, as noted by Chief Minister Stalin.
The state-of-the-art facility, sprawling over 400 acres, aims to produce 50,000 units annually, with the capacity to scale up to 150,000 to meet demand. It is set to create significant employment opportunities locally, boost socio-economic development, and establish Tamil Nadu as a leading EV hub in South Asia.
